Botanical name: Cinnamomum glanduliferum    Family: Lauraceae (Laurel family)

Nepal Camphor Tree is an evergreen tree reaching a height around 5-20 m. Leaves are shiny, dark green, alternate, stalked, elliptic to ovate or lanceshaped, 6-15 cm long and 4-6.5 cm wide. Flowers are yellowish and small, about 3 mm wide. Fruits are black, spherical, up to 1 cm in diameter. Flowering period extends from March through May and the fruits ripen from July to September. The leaves have a characteristic smell and contain camphor and essential oils. Nepal Camphor Tree is found in the Himalayas, from Nepal to NE India, Burma, C. & S. China, Malaya, at altitudes of 1500-2600 m. Flowering: Mar-May.
Medicinal uses: The leaves are carminative and stimulant. They are used to treat the common cold, cough, wind-damp impediment pain, distending pain in stomach duct and diarrhoea. The bark and roots are used medicinally.
